ARCADE APARTMENTS INCREASES SUSTAINABILITY IN DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS

ST. LOUIS – Arcade Apartments, in the central corridor of downtown St. Louis, has incorporated several sustainable elements into the $118 million renovation project currently underway. Dominium, the project developer, specifically selected certain design concepts and materials to bolster the overall sustainability of the building construction and maintenance.
Some of those elements include efficient irrigation systems, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, Energy Star compliant appliances, and energy efficient lighting throughout. Construction materials chosen for their low environmental impact include low VOC paints, primers, sealants, adhesives. The construction also followed a construction waste management plan that aimed to reduce waste from construction by 25%.
“Arcade Apartments incorporates sustainable materials and methods that benefit the community and environment,” said Jeff Huggett, vice president and project partner with Dominium. “However, our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the four walls of the building. The location of this project in downtown St. Louis, with its proximity to numerous transit options and other walkable attractions, helps to further build out a community committed to cohesive and environmentally sound practices. We are proud to be a new neighbor in this community.”
According to the website Walk Score, Arcade Apartments is considered a “walker’s paradise”, achieving a 96 out of 100 walkability score. The historic renovation is located within a half-mile of several public transit options and includes multiple walkable connections to community amenities such as restaurants, markets, parks and other public spaces.
Arcade Apartments is on schedule to open in December 2015. The renovation of the historic Arcade Building is the largest apartment renovation to be undertaken in St. Louis in decades. Designed to meet the needs of artists and those with an appreciation for the arts, residents will have access to more than 11,000 square feet of shared artist studio spaces and a 19th floor rooftop terrace and clubroom.
